Ljøsnåvollen

Ljøsnåvollen is an idyllic mountain holding with buildings dating back to the 19th century. It has been used for summer pasture ever since the 17th century by farms from Feragen. Today, cattle are transported the 12 kilometres to the summer pasture on the small gravel road, but in the past they had to cross the ice on Lake Feragen.

The same family has farmed Ljøsnåvollen for generations. The mountain holding run in a traditional way with cattle and dairy production. Since way back, the farm also offers food and lodgings for fell walkers, skiers and fishermen in the cosy cottage Vinterstua.

The first marked winter and summer trails to Ljøsnåvollen were established already in the 1940s, but it’s a long walk to get here. If you start from Fjällnäs, you must be prepared for a long and arduous day’s walk. The distance from Langen farm in Norway is a little shorter. The gravel road from Feragen is closed to motor traffic, but suitable for cycling.
