Who has been to Juttulslätten?

In the eastern parts of the nature reserve, where few visitors ever set foot, is the flat and curious Juttulslätten plain. Bogs, lakes and sparsely forested alpine heaths spread across a wide open space. Peculiar land formations from different ice ages are typical features. Walking in this landscape is a strange experience, and you almost wonder which millennium you’re in.

The area was a so called ice-divide zone in the centre of the ice sheet, where the ice was thickest. Here, the ice was mostly stagnant, and land formations from previous ice ages “overwintered”, preserved under the ice sheet.
