Where do all the boulders

come from?

The question certainly seems justified when you walk through Femundsmarka and around Rogen. It’s almost as if the stones and boulders grow straight out of the ground, but of course that’s not the case. This is the work of the enormous inland ice, which broke off pieces of rock and left them scattered all over when it melted. The large number of boulders also depends on the bedrock. The most common rock in Gränslandet is sparagmite – a hard sandstone which doesn’t crumble easily. The rock can crack, but is not easily ground into sand.
